The Farrells (and O’Farrells) are descended from the Irish sept Ó Fearghail that originated in County Longford. The name ranks as the 35th most numerous name in Ireland, with over 13,000 members. The name is most prevalent in County Leinster and is also common in Counties Longford, Westmeath and Meath. In this century, the variant of O’Farrell is making a comeback, but is still outnumbered by the Farrells.
